Transcript: Dog Breeding Chat Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004: Containing Puppies PHFlea: Good Evening Everyone!! PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat travlinpom_nr: Hey all PHFlea: (((((Trav)))))LTNS!! travlinpom_nr: Hey Flea, how you doing? coton_mom_nr: Does anyone have experience introducing a puppy into a family with an adult dog? PHMorgan: Certainly PHFlea: I've been great Trav.....how is your clan doing? PHMorgan: We usually introduce them OUTSIDE PHMorgan: Preferrably in a neutral area like a neighbor or friends' yard travlinpom_nr: Flea, all hanging in there, very tired, just got back from five days of showing PHMorgan: Often we recommend the folks bring their adult WITH THEM To pick the puppy up at the breeder's, if that is possible dona_nr: hi all, I have some whippet pups at home, this nice sept. weather has been great house training them outside before winter coton_mom_nr: We just lost our Skye who was the friend of our Coton. We don't if he would appreciate a new friend. he seems to be mourning his partner as are we all PHMorgan: The adult might not be welcome INSIDE the breeders house due to puppies & momdog, but they can at least be introduce there, maybe in teh y6arde PHMorgan: I'm sure he is - dogs mourn just like we do MiniSch_nr: We are on puppy watch here - temp dropped to 98.3 at 11:30 this morning, but is back up to 99.5 tonight. dona_nr: right I never let strange dogs in when I have pups or any dogs even slitely ill, like my l5 yr. old bitch was not feeling well a while ago PHFlea: Wow what a busy clan in here tonight with puppies and shows...... TPoms_nr: hi all, it's my first time here travlinpom_nr: Hey TPoms!! you have Poms???? dona_nr: yesI showed for 34 yrs., now I have a back injury and cannot do it any more, we have over l00 CHS PHMorgan: Still noghint? PHMorgan: Nothing, I mean! PHMorgan: LOL TPoms_nr: puppy watch here too. 98.6 this morning and 99.5 now PHMorgan: Tell her to get down to business TPoms_nr: hi travlin, yes i do dona_nr: yes waiting is the hard part of whelping travlinpom_nr: TPoms, do you show? thorncolly: dona - what is your breed? dona_nr: I used to show dona_nr: whippets TPoms_nr: yes dona_nr: over l00 CHS dona_nr: 3 BIS thorncolly: are all the 100 chs whippets? dona_nr: many top ten and group winners PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! GAChesters: Howdy room! PHFlea: Hi GAC!! dona_nr: most, some are greyhounds travlinpom_nr: TPoms, do i know you??? LOL . . . .. what area are you in? I'm midwest . . . . did you go to specialty this weekend? dona_nr: me? PHMorgan: That's pretty impressive, Dona TPoms_nr: no, i'm in ontario. do i know you? lol thorncolly: so you have raised two sizes of dogs - how do you contain your pups then when they are getting out of the box? GAChesters: I have a MAJOR off-topic gripe if I may gripe a bit coton_mom_nr: Do you think our adult coton would like a puppy or would that only make him more upset. It could not really replace his friend PHMorgan: Goi for it, GAC PHFlea: Coton...it really depends on your dog.... dona_nr: I use an ex pen around the whelping box PHMorgan: COton - I don't htink a puppy will upset him, but I do think it will not necessarily replace his "Friend" TPoms_nr: did you go to the specialty travlin? PHMorgan: I also use an expen around the box PHMorgan: Seems to work best travlinpom_nr: TPoms, yes i did . . . very long weekend GAChesters: Yesterday, a vet misdiagnosed one of my brood bitches when her co-owner took her to the vet. He dx pyometra without even a CBC!!!!! HE did $250 worth of pointless testing and almost spayed her, losing an invaluable dog to my breeding program \ thorncolly: I didnt find the expen around the box worked for long with my breed - needed more space if a big litter PHMorgan: THe front of my box comes off, so I just remove it and use the expen to extend the box GAChesters: Thank goodness my co-owner is very skeptical and called me first. TPoms_nr: i saw the results on the lists. most of them anyway wobbsbonnie_nr: hi coton_mom_nr: Do yorkshires get along well with other dogs? PHMorgan: Fortunately for you, Thorn, our topic tonight is Pupppy COntainment! travlinpom_nr: Tpoms, interesting judging . . . i wasnt going to go, but my partner really wanted to . . . we did okay, but nothing spectacular PHMorgan: We can discuss anything that keep the boogers from wrecking the house and getting into trouble TPoms_nr: lol. it's almost aways interesting judging thorncolly: yep _ i know - thats why I logged in. I found I had to fence off almost an entire room with a 2 ft high expen - that seemed to do it PHMorgan: I have done so as wel travlinpom_nr: TPoms, yep!!! None of the judges were particularly good for me . . . i show some color . . . but went ahead anyway PHMorgan: I once had 13 pups all at one time PHMorgan: That was quite a project thorncolly: my first litter was 11 pups - PHMorgan: My whelping box now is expandable to 4x12 TPoms_nr: i'm waiting for babies to come. my show pup for next year!!! PHMorgan: THEN I can add the expen! thorncolly: Morgan - your breed is Saints then ? travlinpom_nr: TPoms, good luck with that!!! Hope you have spectacular puppies . . . would i know the pedigrees? TPoms_nr: just found this site while killing the time GAChesters: Hi Mow. PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... PHFlea: Hi Mow!! PHMowgli: Howdy folks dl_pap: my are adorable... just starting to walk and play PHMorgan: No - my breed is Pointers.... LOL TPoms_nr: maybe. dam is from Weepawz and sire is from Ken G. PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... thorncolly: hahahahaha - I just kinda went by the icon LOL !! well 13 pointers are still a handful travlinpom_nr: TPoms, okay . . . Lenette and Great Elms lines MiniSch_nr: My first two litters were easy to contain - a 2 foot board keep them in the dining room/kitchen. PHMorgan: The icon IS a pointer.... LOL That's my foundation bitch.... LOL PHMorgan: OK - you guys hold her and *I* will beat minisch with a wet noodle for bragging..... LOL dl_pap: what happened to last weeks transcripts? PHMorgan: I'm sure they will be up soon dl_pap: size is everything! PHFlea: What do you pom breeders use to contain?? PHMorgan: I also begin putting them out in the kennel at about 4-5 weeks PHMorgan: Pom breeders use egg cartons... LOLOL thorncolly: Cant put then in the kennel where I live in winter , so winter litters can be a problem - I am in northern WI travlinpom_nr: Flea, for whelping, I use a 2" x 3" pen with box at one end, dishes and papers at the other end dl_pap: lol GAChesters: Toy puppies are so easy, all we needis a 4 x 4 TPoms_nr: actually not quite right. got the sire from ken, but he's Jan-Shar bred. goes back to the old D-Nee's stuff MiniSch_nr: But it is getting to be more of a challenge. My puppy male from the last litter was jumping the fence at 5 months. One of the girls from this litter figured out how to climb onto the vitamin tub I had in the walkway I made so the adults could get to the outside (doggy door is in the sliding door screen) and over the wall onto my tack box at 3 months old. PHMowgli: I use a 2x4 whelping box placed inside an ex pen so mom can get away from pups for a bit LOL travlinpom_nr: As the puppies get older, i use a 3' x 3' raised pen PHFlea: Hi White!! WhiteGold_nr: hi flea PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... travlinpom_nr: TPOms, geez, that's Nadine's stuff . . . she hasnt bred anything in forever TPoms_nr: just about the same as me. PHMorgan: I find if there is ANYTHING to use to climb out, they are OUT PHMorgan: MIne even use EACH OTHER TPoms_nr: i know. but that's what he goes back to. very nice boy. I have high hopes for this litter PHMorgan: I had one litter that I used to put out in an expen. They kept escapging, alll except ONE good little girl PHFlea: Min....what a very adventurous little pup dl_pap: they will use each other if given the chance thorncolly: how did breeders live without expens LOL PHMorgan: Turns out, the GOOD girl would grab the top of the expen and BACK UP until the bottom popped up and EVERYONE would get out except her..... LOL TPoms_nr: now i'll have to go pull the pedigree lol PHMowgli: thorn playpens LOL travlinpom_nr: I know that Ken's stuff all goes back to G.E. but i know he went out several times in the past two years and also bought a couple boys to use PHMorgan: I had some early escapees one time - I got home and momdog was frantically trying to corrall them - one had even climbed up my stairs and was hiding in the upstairs closet.... They were 4 weeks old thorncolly: actually - thats what I used with my first litters - a childs playpen, but they wrecked them in no time thorncolly: OMG - little rascals !!! PHFlea: Poor Mom!! She must of been so frantic.... WhiteGold_nr: I put an expen around the whelping box until they start to climb out PHFlea: WB Val!! PHMorgan: She was PHMowgli: hey val PHMorgan: She was in hysterics that htey were not together WhiteGold_nr: I then raise the front board as high as possible. Mom can still jump in PHMorgan: They escaped teh expen - it wasn't properly attached to the box PHMorgan: My box is 24" high so we use the expen as a supplementary part of the box, not around it PHMorgan: My bitches have no trouble jumping an expen WhiteGold_nr: I have the General Cage wall unit and I love it for puppies cages VAL911K9: hi everyone PHFlea: Val how are you doing? PHMorgan: VAL! PHMorgan: {{{}}}} TPoms_nr: sorry phone call. got him from Ken but he didn't breed him VAL911K9: my server jept locking up so not sure how long will be here PHMorgan: OK so how many of you find it's hard ot keep pups under control outside? What kinds of solutions do you ahve? VAL911K9: we are doing ok still waiting for weather to cool down PHFlea: Mine is doing it to.....but due to the remnants of Jeanne travlinpom_nr: Those 12" x 12" panels that they sell at WalMart are great, they are made for shelves, but if you hook them together, they are very lightweight and great to travel with puppies . . . . well, pom puppies . . . not so great for big puppies TPoms_nr: top is janshar and bottom is clarmont which is going back to apples and d-nees VAL911K9: we use an x-pen in the grass then move them to a kennel run when they are bigger WhiteGold_nr: I just let min run around in the backyard. It wear them out and then I bring them back inside thorncolly: I use a 3 ft expen outdoors, then when they get bigger I have a fenced in yard area & it opens into a kennel that leads into the kennel building PHMowgli: I like to use vinyl lattice formed into temp pens in the yard for my pups GAChesters: trav, have you seen the foldable gerbil expens at walmart now? bet those would work for you PHMowgli: I then place bird netting over the top to keep the buggers in and the predator birds out PHFlea: Hey now....I have one of those thorncolly: I use only KennelAire expens outdoors as they hold up the best dl_pap: mow... do youhave a litter now? travlinpom_nr: GAC, gerbil ex pens?? are you pulling my leg??? PHMowgli: no pap GAChesters: I built a playpen for outside with PVC and stockade fencing....it's great GAChesters: serious trav!!! PHFlea: Trav.....I have a guinea pig expen TPoms_nr: i start mine in the whelping pen which is 30"x30" and then move them into one of those cottonlite pens. if i need more room i run two of the cottonlite pens together GAChesters: they are in the pet dept at wally, trav. they are too short for my guys but bet they'd work great for you travlinpom_nr: GAC and Flea, how tall is it? how big around? what is it made of? cost? WhiteGold_nr: I carpet my kitchen floor for a safe place to play in the house PHFlea: One sec Trav....I will get you the link GAChesters: trav, they are dirt cheap....not sure of the size cuz I didn't look too hard PHMowgli: trav you could even get that cute vinyl picket thta is only 24" tall LOL travlinpom_nr: Flea, thanks!! GAChesters: trav, you could buy 3 and make a huge yard! VAL911K9: dang I have to use a 48 inch tall xpen for my brats PHMorgan: We let ours play in the yard supervised, because our neighbor's fence has spaced pickets.... And yep, the grass is always greener.... PHMorgan: When unsupervised they get our kennel. We have a separate dogyard for the adults, but the pups can go out with the adults by about 5-6 weeks thorncolly: what kind are yours Val ? PHMowgli: Morgan I don't have neighbors but my pups always have to try to get out of fenced areas and into the pasture VAL911K9: french mastiffs thorncolly: oh yeah - thats kinda big !!! dl_pap: paps are too small to have out in so. cal.... the hawks would take them away PHMorgan: Our neighbors don't mind, but I get tired of having to go around through their yard to collect the little escape artitsts.... LOL VAL911K9: teah 1 1/2-2 lbs at whelping PHMowgli: pap that is why I use that bird netting over my pens I have lots of bald eagles and hawks up here TPoms_nr: lol. i once had two 5 oz poms thorncolly: How many do your girls normally give virth to Val? thorncolly: oops - Birth !! LOL VAL911K9: depends Purl had a solo but average 3-8 PHMowgli: val my pups are avg 4 oz pups at birth LOL VAL911K9: wouldn't chade cloth work to keep out the hawks? travlinpom_nr: My pups are between 2-1/2 ozs and 5 ozs at birth PHFlea: Here you go Trav VAL911K9: oops shade cloth PHMorgan: My pups are probably too big for hawks but when they are very small I put them out with momdog anyhhow,k so not a big worry PHMowgli: it does yes Val GAChesters: I use shade cloth, val GAChesters: can buy it by the yard from home depot VAL911K9: to much to pick up LOL TPoms_nr: these were over 5. ended up big too PHMorgan: I think if I had toydogs I would have to have a shade sheet for their runs all the time, not just for pups PHFlea: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777796&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026350&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1096421058000 PHMowgli: that is what I get too GAC here they called it bird netting with shade protection LOL VAL911K9: if you can share with someone it's lots cheaper to buy a roll - lots of uses for the shade cloth PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... PHMowgli: hi PoLow PHFlea: Trav they also make a taller one travlinpom_nr: Flea, i am getting "internet server error" am i doing this wrong? PoLow_nr: Thanks and Hi PHFlea: Hi PoLow PHMowgli: no trav the petsmart site is down PoLow_nr: Hello TPoms_nr: i got it too dl_pap: i use laminated plywood to to box off a corner in the kitchen,,, it's slippery, so they can't get a foot hold to climb up PHMorgan: SO how much time do your puppies spend indoors OUTSIDE the box? Do you all bring them in groups or one at a time to "watch TV" or help with chores? PHFlea: Trav....just go to www. petsmart.com under guinea pig cages GAChesters: I have also seen a taller one at walmart, trav PHFlea: GAC....I have the taller one made by Marshalls PHMowgli: Morgan I just let mine run around family room for 1 hr intervals 3-6 times a day with mom dl_pap: in groups... WhiteGold_nr: Mine are started with crate training at 5 weeks old with play time in my kitchen around 3 - 4 times daily. thorncolly: my pups are raised indoors - spend most of the day outdoors from about 6 or 8 weeks, depending on weather dl_pap: love piling them up and snuggling PHMowgli: whole litter at once for mine PoLow_nr: LOL....Morgan. We devote one evening per puppy PHMorgan: WE usually have prettty good-sized litters, but I would say we rarely have out more than 1 per person home... LOL PHMorgan: Otherwise it gets CRAZY GAChesters: 510098 Small Animal Exercise PlayPen, Large Purple, 198"D x 24"H $39.99 that's what it says, trav VAL911K9: I start crating in the whelping box at 3 weeks 2 at a time in the crate GAChesters: I have a 9 week old now that just follows me around the house....LOL she's a tad poilt PHMorgan: I also start crating before they go home - at about 6 weeks I will crate pups overnight from about midnight until 6AM, in groups PHFlea: Well I'm heading to bed....night all!! Good Luck on all the litters coming up!! dl_pap: i put mine in the laundry basket and move them from room to room VAL911K9: nite Flea GAChesters: nite flea PHMorgan: GAC there is always one of those PHMowgli: nite Flea WhiteGold_nr: I am having trouble house breaking a 6 month old. She can't hold her pee for longer then 35 min if she is playing VAL911K9: LOL Quest crawled out of the laundry basket at 4 hours old PHMorgan: DL - that's what I use to move them from inside to outside, but usually by 4 weeks they are too heavy for me thorncolly: thas what I do - start the crating about 6 weeks, usually 2 or 3 pups poer crate dl_pap: LOL PHMorgan: I had a sick 3 week old puppy that crawled OUT of a laundry basket and INTo bed with me PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... dl_pap: awwwww PHMowgli: hi Rosie thorncolly: has anyone tried using a litter box to train pups ? PHMorgan: She is now 7 months old and such a delight to her family - they ahve done a GREAT job training her Rosie_nr: Hello...I need help potty training! PHMorgan: AND socializing her VAL911K9: I am trying to get my DH to put in a dutch door to the puppy room so can still shut the door but look over it to check pups PHMorgan: What's going on Rosie? HOw old is the baby? PHMowgli: thorn my last 2 litters were litterbox trained PHMorgan: Thorn - I've never used one but a close friend used one with a loitter of labs and said it was gREAT dl_pap: we had that when i was a kid dl_pap: was great dl_pap: reraly see them anymore VAL911K9: I know - may have to cut the door we have and modify it Rosie_nr: She is a GWP, never been inside, 3years old, past owner gave her up because she wouldn't hunt(lucky for me) and she is not spayed! WhiteGold_nr: I am having trouble potty training one also Rosie dl_pap: i say mow gives next weeks lesson on litter training!!! thorncolly: how did you do that MNowgli ?/ I would love to try it PHMowgli: Val I did that had my door cut down about top 2 feet then put a ledge there PHMorgan: What kinds of housebreaking problems are you having? PHMorgan: Just accidents? PHMowgli: thorn I went to the purina website and got their free video and info on potty training puppies LOL PHMorgan: OK - here's what we do with adult pointer rescues who have never lived indoors VAL911K9: thats what I want - with the ledge but need the top part to work when I am using it to seperate the boys PHMowgli: using litter PHMorgan: 1) imagine your adult dog is a PUPPY WhiteGold_nr: My 6 month old girl seems like she doesn't even try to hold it PHMorgan: 2) Put him on a STRICT schedule of eating, playing and pottying. T ry to keep to this EVEN ON WEEKENDS PHMowgli: val yes I have a bolt latch that hook the two parts together Rosie_nr: Constant, I know that I've only had her for 5 days, I praise with treats and LOTS of affection. VAL911K9: thats it Mow will have to get my DH busy as hoping to rebreed Purl in Nov PHMorgan: 3) Take him out regularly ON A LEAD and praise for elimination. This will take some patience as few adults appreciate having to potty on a leash, but you will need to have some way to tell her when she is RIGHT, not just when she is WRONG PHMorgan: 4) If you can't supervise, CRATE HER PHMowgli: Thorn it was real easy actually it said to blot up urine on floor with paper towel and place the paper towel in the litter box, then take pups to the litter box and show them where they are supposed to potty PHMorgan: Treat her just like a puppy and she will get the diea PHMorgan: *idea PHMowgli: within 1 week they all used the litter box most of the time wthin a month they used it faithfully GAChesters: Mow, those are shelties tho!!! What bout for kids like mine who aren't rocket scientists? dl_pap: i'll have to try that this time dl_pap: would be so convenient PHMowgli: of course now as 1 yr olds they still use a litter box LOL thorncolly: Mow - what did you use for litter and what was the box ?? VAL911K9: what kind of flooring does everyone use in the whelping box - play areas ? I used olifin carpet - great to clean but a 5 ft x 5ft piece is very heavy PHMowgli: GAC I don't know I have shelties LOL PHMowgli: thorn I started with the dog litter now I use a mixture of corn cob litter and scoopable cat litter thorncolly: I use bathroom carpeting with heavy rubber backing - it stays in place good and you can cut to size PHMorgan: I just use a tarp - my box has no floor WhiteGold_nr: I use sheepskin in the whelp[ing box, and old carpet in the kitchen for later PHMorgan: IT's easy to clean and you just throw it away afterward PHMowgli: I used the bottom half of a vari kennel collie size as a litter box thorn PHMorgan: We have blankies on top or newspaper or both, depending on the age of the pups Rosie_nr: When she goes inside...how should I react? She will sit and stare at me while she does it... PHMorgan: TELl her NO thorncolly: thanks Mow - and what is the litter you used? PHMorgan: It's OK to verbally reprimand her for doing this - it's NOT allowed PHMowgli: now I just use a 2x3 crate pan for a suitcase style crate PHMorgan: DOn't put her nose in it or strike her, but I would COLLAR her and drag her RIGHT OUTSIDE, complaining the whole way about what a BAD GIRL she is GAChesters: Mow, how many litterboxes do you have set up in the kennel? PHMorgan: There is no other way to tge the point across. GAChesters: And how many times a day do you have to clean it? PHMowgli: thorn I started with that good sense dog litter but they tried to eat it so I switched to scoop away mixed half and half with corn cob litter Rosie_nr: Ok THANK YOU verymuch!!!!!! LIONDOGZ2_nr: HI MOWGLI thorncolly: scoop away is for cats right ??? VAL911K9: with Quest I used the moving quilts and just did a lot of laundry, but they slip PHMowgli: GAC I have 1 box per run for the boxes and I clean them twice a day PHMowgli: with a pooper scooper I drilled holes in the pan PHMowgli: yes thorn PHMowgli: hey Lion PHMowgli: Hi ya Bert GAChesters: mow, how often do you have to do a complete litter change? dl_pap: Rosie you just have to really watch her like a hawk LIONDOGZ2_nr: i think i am a day behind in chat dl_pap: if she can't ever get away with it... PHMowgli: about ever 2-3 weeks GAC it depends on how much urine is placed in litter box and how much is placed outside in grass LOL dl_pap: she'll catch on pretty quick PHMorgan: Again, Rosie, treat her like a PUPPY. Keep her under your eye all the time and if you CAN'T watch her, put her in her crate PHMorgan: She will learn it, I promise GAChesters: Mow, they are covered right? I couldn't use this totally outdoors WhiteGold_nr: The crate isn't even helping mine, she just pees in the crate PHMowgli: what is covered GAC? GAChesters: The litter box GAChesters: They are indoors--right? PHMowgli: mine are in the outside runs which are covered yes VAL911K9: have you had this dog checked for urinary trac infections? dl_pap: then the crate is probably too big thorncolly: I want to use the litter boxes indoors - for winter littters who cant get outdoors due to our bitter weather PHMowgli: however if you want to use outdoors get a covered kitty litter pan your guys are small to fit in one LOL Rosie_nr: I will do that! 2 days a week I work from 9-6, I guess I should have some one let her out...or get a crate! PHMorgan: White - you need to get your kid to the vet - she might have a mild urinary tract infection PHMowgli: thorn that is why I used it too LOL GAChesters: thorn, I tried once with a toy litter, but it was more fun to play in the litter box so I went back to puppy pads PHMorgan: ANytime a 6 month old with a diligent ownr is having potty training issues, you gotta get with the vet WhiteGold_nr: She just finished 2 weeks of Clavamox, and it didn't seem to help PHMorgan: Rosie - GET A CRATE PHMorgan: YOu cann0ot hpe to have success during a workday with out one PHMowgli: thorn my two collies who are adults will use the litter box if they see another dog pee in there first LOL PHMorgan: Did they FIND a problem? Or just put her on antibiotics? WhiteGold_nr: I have never had one that was so hard to train thorncolly: ha - the litterbox idea can be used later for adults in a pinch !! VAL911K9: litter cox trained would be nice for traveling - some of my young dogs had a problem waiting to get down the elevator VAL911K9: oops litter box WhiteGold_nr: I used the litter box, but my pups ate the litter and sleep in the box instead of using it........lol dl_pap: LOL PHMowgli: thorn I now use one for bitches after surgery or litters so I know everything is coming out all right or a dog I need to watch stools MiniSch_nr: What litter do you use - I found that mine tried to eat the litter. PHMowgli: mine tried to eat litter with the dog litter also LOL GAChesters: hi bert! GAChesters: mine too white PHMowgli: I now use a combo of corn cob litter and scoop away cat litter dl_pap: what won't they eat? WhiteGold_nr: I used the purina paper pellet litter berta: Hi am I late? PHMorgan: Mine owuld eat the litter dl_pap: if they eat the clumping stuff... PHMorgan: Welcome to Breeder Chat! Tonight's Topic is Confining Puppies.... PHMowgli: none of mine touched this litter once they took a single taste LOL GAChesters: my breed is terrible for poop eating....they'd eat the litter and the poop dl_pap: i would think that that would be very dangerous berta: Oh shoot I forgot about that dang clock stopping PHMowgli: I get the scoop away natural it is proccessed cardboard I believe thorncolly: ohhh - Mow , thats a great idea for the moms !! Your breed is a smaller one then mine, but that would still be do-able for me too PHMowgli: thorn you may just need a bigger cate pan PHMowgli: crate* PHMowgli: and thorn we are lucky we got smart breeds LOL dl_pap: i'm gonna try it! PHMorgan: Some folks I know just use shredded newsppaer in teh litter box PHMowgli: they catch on so quick GAChesters: did your power go out bert? dl_pap: will report back in a couple of weeks GAChesters: mo, shredded newspaper was too fun for my kids ....they had parades PHMowgli: yeah morgan that is just about what mine is but it is such tiny pieces it looks like grated carboard thorncolly: hahahahaha - thats tru Mow - but then some might say we are a tad prejudiced LOL PHMowgli: what Us Thorn biased never berta: DoDon to my Nationaln't know I was gone berta: Stupid computer MiniSch_nr: Mow, is yours a commercial brand? Name please. GAChesters: bert, speaky englash puhleeze dl_pap: my sisters shelties are none too bright :-) PHMowgli: berta can you type that in english? berta: That was don't know was gone to my National thorncolly: say Mow - just curious, but what was that opther litter made of - the stuff the pups likes to eat ? GAChesters: oooh how'd ya do bert? berta: No too well PHMowgli: it was the purina litter for dogs it is made of processed paper with some type of coating GAChesters: phooey bert VAL911K9: what breed Berta? PHMowgli: corn cob litter was recommended by my vet as he felt if they ate a bit it would not hurt them LOL GAChesters: oboy, Mow....thinking of the fiber content + toy dogs GAChesters: wb trav! PHMowgli: he also suggest guniea pig food too as it is grain pellets LOL PHMowgli: Wb trav thorncolly: thanks Mow - apparently they didnt like the corn cob litter with the scoop away mixed in berta: Kyrie hurt her tail before we left (spiderbite that she chewed at) Muirgen got jumped on my Sir then Sir had an accident at the wash station and blew his knew berta: That was knee PHMowgli: right thorn I think cause the texture is almost like sand berta: Samoyeds GAChesters: outch bert!! travlinpom_nr: geez, Flea's link bumped me . . . . PHMowgli: OMG berta is everyone alright? VAL911K9: wow Berta - not a fun time PHMorgan: So berta has spent all week so far at the vet? Bill_nr: Hey Berta! I have a 9 mo old Sammy dog! berta: Kyr was better enough to run agility in slomo then NOT drop in obedience (I couldn't work her with her conehead) Muirgen needs the chiropractor and Sir is seeing an orthopedic guy on Thurs.......
