Nice investment for a novice raw feeder

This book is good to have around as more of a confidence builder than anything else really. The author isn't a vet, nutritionist or any type of expert, so reading this book is a lot like just talking to an experience raw feeder & finding out what works for them. If you are looking for a nutritional breakdown of different foods, or meal plans etc, this probably isn't the one you are looking for. But, for $10 this is a worthwhile addition to a raw feeder's library. When I first started out raw feeding, not too long ago, I really just wanted a book that would tell me 'what' to feed, what IS a raw meaty bone?, Is this normal?, what to expect when....? etc. This book helps guide you in taking the first steps towards raw feeding.
loved this book!!

if you are interested or curious about the raw food diet, then this book is wonderful. She lays out her experience very well and answers questions honestly. I even enjoyed the list of resources she compiled in the back for other readings tha i will pursue. If you are looking for an easy to understand book that follows one person experience with the diet, then this book is perfect for you.
Great Practical Advice

Like many other reviewers, I have fed raw for quite a while, 6 years, in my case, with excellent results. I wish I'd had this book when I started making my own dog food. It brings together a lot of practical info which I eventually worked out for myself after doing the obligatory reading of all the BARF books and internet resources. It's a short, easy to read book which emphasizes the health benefits of fresh, raw food without scaring anyone with the minutiae of dog nutrition. She also reminds owners that vets may well be hostile to the idea of raw feeding, tells why this probably is, and how to educate them.

With all the dog food recalls, even of "good" brands, many of my puppy people are interested in the raw diet. I'm going to recommend this book as an explanatory guide. Even if they don't end up feeding raw, it may at least encourage them to give their poor kibble-fed dogs some raw meat/bones!
Raw Dog Food

This book is a great starting point for the pet owner who is considering switching to raw. Our 4 cocker spaniels are currently on this diet now. Don't expect any resource to give you a standard recipe. You need to invest the time and research a recipe you and your dogs can live with. This is NOT an exact science but are happy with the results just the same.
Good starting book

We got this book when we first switched our dog over to raw. We mainly got this because we have a bulldog and why not get the book with one on the cover. Had some good points, but we've since gone to many other sources to continue our education, which is why only the four stars in stead of five.
